Questions

How do I convert a Roblox model into one mesh?

Drop it here. rbxbake removes hidden faces, merges flat ones and bakes the studs and materials into one texture, ready for the 3D Importer. The tree example turns 3,230 parts into one mesh of 18,300 to 19,990 triangles, depending on the detail and texture size, under Roblox's limit of 20,000. Bigger builds are split into several meshes that each fit.

Does turning parts into one mesh reduce lag?

One mesh loads and renders much faster than thousands of parts: the tree is one object instead of 3,230. Set lod for a lighter version to use far away.

When are parts better than one mesh?

Anything that moves, breaks or gets changed by a script should stay its own object. Bake the rest. Parts and Roblox's materials are also built into the client, while every custom mesh and texture is extra download and memory, and parts keep exact collision and sharp textures up close.

Do I need Blender?

No. In Blender you'd join the parts, UV unwrap them by hand and bake a texture. rbxbake does all of that in one go, and knows Roblox's studs and materials.

What does it support?

Parts, wedges, corner wedges, cylinders, balls, seats and spawns, every material, and the stud styles from 2006 to today. MeshParts, unions and decals are skipped, their data is only stored on Roblox's servers.

How do I export a model from Roblox Studio?

Right click it and save it to a file (.rbxm), or drop a whole place (.rbxl): only Workspace is baked. Then import the FBX with the 3D Importer.

Can I keep the studs?

Yes: they are baked into the texture, in the style of 2006 to today, so they stay when the 3D Importer turns the mesh into a MeshPart.

Making a retro or stud-style game?

Studbuilds (the "retroslop" look) keep their look: the studs go into the texture, and thousands of parts become one mesh.

Can I recolor it in Studio?

Turn on split by color for one untextured mesh per color.

Is it free and private?

Yes. It runs in your browser via WebAssembly, on computers and phones, and nothing gets uploaded.

What is it made with?

Written in C and compiled to WebAssembly, so it runs in your browser. The same build runs the command line version below.

Is there a command line version?

Yes, with Node:

curl -s https://segerend.nl/rbxbake/cli.mjs | node - model.rbxmx

Is rbxbake made by Roblox?

No. It's made by SegerEnd and not affiliated with or endorsed by Roblox Corporation. Roblox is a trademark of Roblox Corporation.
